About Maria Elizabeth
Maria's experience of design and creation has spanned her whole lifetime. From cutting up her mother's best flannel sheet at age eight to make a king puppet, to creating a seven foot wolf costume at age… much older than eight! and everything in between.
Maria was born in Glenageary, Co. Dublin and spent most of her life sewing and knitting. With a hoarding instinct inherited from her father, she has a lifetime of being resourceful, recycling and upcycling, of collecting stuff and creating beautiful things from it.
From 1995 to 1997 Maria studied fashion design at Sallynoggin College of Further Education in Co. Dublin and spent many years since in dressmaking and clothes alterations.
In 2010 Maria returned to college to study for a Bachelor of Arts in Interactive Multimedia at the Institute of Technology, Tralee. Her experience with handcrafts gave her a unique insight into combining these skills with her newly acquired multimedia skills. She graduated in 2014 with first class honours and then went on to complete a Masters of Arts in Creative Media at the Institute of Technology, graduating in 2016, also with first class honours. Both her BA and MA work was film and animation based, focussing on model making and miniature set design.
Maria currently runs a small shop, redesigning clothes, selling yarn and local crafts and making handcrafts from recycled materials under the name "The Lazy Elves".
Maria has a particular interest in 3D illustration using model-making and miniature set design using papercraft and textiles.
